Construction of a Solar Air Cooler with Tracking

This is Mechanical engineering based final year project on "construction of a solar air cooler with tracking". In this project, Solar Power is captured by tracking and stored in the battery and this power is used to run air cooler when required. The design process involved the determination of all aspects necessary to make a first prototype based on requirements and operating conditions identified. You can also subscribe to FINAL YEAR PROJECT'S by Email for more such projects and seminar.

Mechanical Engineering Project on Solar Air Cooler with Tracking

The output of this project will be the construction of a prototype with the ability to be placed with an average angular difference of 25 degrees to the position of the sun, under controlled conditions. The device that will be created is a solar tracker with single degrees of freedom, one used to track the sun daily, operates automatically actuated by the Light Detecting Resistor.

To cope up with the seasonal position of sun we need to switch to a tracker that has two degrees of freedom. Although the cost of the active solar tracker is more than the passive solar tracker, but it also has the advantage of increased efficiency and its construction is simple, making it an economical alternative to increase the production of photovoltaic energy on a PV panel currently fixed.

A solar tracker is a device for orienting a solar photovoltaic panel, daylighting reflector or concentrating solar reflector or lens toward the sun. Solar power generation works best when pointed directly at the sun, so a solar tracker can increase the effectiveness of such equipment over any fixed position. The solar panels must be perpendicular to the sun's rays for maximum energy generation.

The block diagram of this project consists of following main parts:

1. Solar Panel
2. Battery (12 Volt D.C)
3. D.C motor coupled with Impeller
4. Water Pump (D.C 12 Volt)

Working of Solar Air Cooler with Tracking

This section tells you about working principle of this project. First of all, the solar panel converts the sun rays to the electricity by "Photo-Voltaic Effect". This electrical power is stored in a 12-Volt battery. Battery D.C power is used to run the D.C motor and D.C water pump Block diagram, Photo-voltaic Effect and major components of our project are already discussed above chapters.

The D.C motor is coupled with impeller blades. The D.C motor runs during the air cooler button ON, the impeller blades starts rotating. The water pump is used to circulate the water to the blower unit. The forced air flows through the water which is sprayed by the water pump so that the cold air produced. The switch control is used to ON/OFF solar air collar circuit and heater circuit.

In this project report on "construction of a solar air cooler with tracking", different types of solar tracker has been discussed along with the construction details, working, block diagram, etc. This project also has great future for further expansion.
