Project on Solar Street Light Installation and Commissioning

Surprisingly this is the Mechanical engineering project and not the electronics engineering project on "solar street light installation and commissioning". As you already know renewable energy is vital for our survival and conventional energy is depleting day by day, so projects on solar energy are very important and should be considered while deciding your final year project. You can also subscribe to FINAL YEAR PROJECT'S by Email for more such projects and seminar.

Mechanical Project on Solar Street Light Installation and Commissioning

Solar street lights are raised light sources which are powered by photovoltaic panels generally mounted on the lighting structure. The photovoltaic panels charge a rechargeable battery, which powers a fluorescent or LED lamp during the night.

Sun rays strike solar panels which creates current that is regulated by a charge controller. The charge controller is responsible for limiting the rate at which electrical current charges or discharges the battery bank. This is necessary to prevent batteries from being overcharged or overdrawn, both of which can have deleterious effects on the battery’s lifespan. The batteries themselves can be used as a source of DC current.

Solar power plants strive to convert, either directly using photovoltaic(PV), or indirectly using Concentrated solar power systems (CSP).

Solar energy technologies include solar heating, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity and solar architecture, which can make considerable contributions to solving some of the most urgent problems the world now faces. Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics converts light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Solar technologies are broadly described as below 2 things.

1. Passive solar

2. Active solar

Recommended Project: Energy Generation From Busy Road

This is purely based on depending on the way they capture, convert and distribute solar energy.

Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic panels and solar thermal collectors to harness the energy.

Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.

From this solar street light project, the author observed that as nowadays we are facing electricity crises hence solar is the best replacement of the utility grid. As solar is available everywhere with no cost we can take advantage of installing solar power plants or solar street light for our domestic as well as industrial purposes.

It can be easily installed in rural areas especially forests or remote locations. Solar Light has several advantages, but it also has some disadvantages like high initial cost, which is mainly responsible for not being popular.
