An Automatic Temperature Control System Using 8051 Microcontroller

This is Electrical and Electronics project work on "an automatic temperature control system using 8051 microcontroller", which is also called "Temperature controlled Fan". It is an automated fan, controlled by a temperature sensor using Microcontroller. Temperature controlled Fan controls the fan speed automatically according to the room temperature. An Automatic Temperature Control System Using 8051 Microcontroller

The system is designed with microcontroller and micro-controllers are increasingly being used to implement control systems. Since the system is intended to control the fan speed, it is, therefore, important to understand the micro-controller controlled system well.

The heart of this project consists of a temperature sensor circuit which uses variable resistors to let out signals to Microcontroller. These variable resistors are collaborated and adjusted to give signals to the Microcontroller that will contact the relays and then will operate the fan’s speed. When heat is applied to the temperature sensor, this will determine the speed of the fan increasing or decreasing in speed according to the four-speed levels that are set to different temperature ranges of a room.

The temperature sensor will typically sense the temperature and the variable resistor set in that temperature range will trigger the microcontroller. In this case, certain resistance will be set according to the measured range of temperature. The fan adjusts the four different speed levels automatically, so one does not need to switch to a different speed level manually. Electricity is also saved.

The purpose of this project work is to present control theory that is relevant to the analysis and design of controlled systems, with an emphasis on basic concepts and ideas. It is assumed that a digital micro-controller chip with reasonable software is available for computations and simulations so that many tedious details can be left to the micro-controller. The control system design is also carried out up to the stage of implementation in the form of micro-controller programs. One can view controlled systems as approximations of analog control systems, but this is a poor approach because the full potential of processor control is not used. At best the results are only as good as those obtained with analog control.
