Power Transmission in Automobiles

Power Transmission in Automobiles is a good Mechanical final-year project topic for students. This report starts with the history of the steam engine and how power was transmitted at that time. The report also tells about the kinds of transmission systems used for the automobile which are manual transmission, automatic transmission, semi-automatic transmission & continuously-variable transmission (CVT).

This report also focuses on different types of clutches like a Cone clutch, Multi-plate clutch, Single clutch plate, etc.

The transmission of power in an automobile is an essential part of the vehicle’s design and operation. Power transmission is the process of delivering power from the engine to the wheels, and it is what drives the vehicle forward.

Without power transmission, a car could not move. Understanding how power transmission works in an automobile is essential for students studying mechanical engineering, particularly those working on their final year project.

The power transmission process in an automobile begins with the engine. Internal combustion engines are responsible for converting fuel into mechanical energy, producing the power needed to propel the vehicle.

The power created by the engine is then transferred to the transmission, which is responsible for changing the speed and torque of the engine so that it can propel the vehicle at different speeds.

The transmission is connected to the drive shaft, which is a long, rotating metal shaft that runs from the transmission to the differential.

The differential is a device that distributes the engine’s power to the wheels. It allows the wheels to rotate at different speeds, which is important when cornering or turning. The differential also helps to reduce the wear and tear on the tires by allowing them to rotate at different speeds.

The power from the differential is then transmitted to the wheels through the axles. The axles are long metal rods that are connected to the wheels, allowing them to be turned when the engine power is transferred to them.

Finally, the power is transferred to the ground through the tires, which grip the road and provide the traction needed to propel the vehicle forward.

In the later chapter, the report explains all about different transmission systems, gearbox with their subtypes, and explain them all.

This is a very good report for automobile engineers for preparing their final year project. Use it for your study and reference work.
